Beach and water

The wide sandy beach is ideal for swimming, playing in the surf, jogging, volleyball, football or simply lazing in the sun with a good book!

The Lodge also offers unique kayaking opportunities, both around the coastal inlets and nearby islands or, for the more intrepid, to the more distant shores further up the coast, whilst enjoying the stunning seascape and coastline adorned by palms and coconut trees. Within just a few hundred kilometres from the Lodge, avid bird lovers can feast their eyes on the rich array of bird species living around the magical lake, locally known as the River of the Gods (mwinge wa mulugu).  Other beach activities, including donkey rides and windsurfing will also be available in the near future.

Outings

There are many places of interest in the surrounding area. Quelimane, the provincial capital, is a charming port town with various historical monuments to visit, as well as many restaurants offering a choice of traditional, as well as international cuisine. The town is also known for its lively night life and open-air discos where you can dance the night away! For nature lovers, there are mountains, forests, hot springs and the stunning tea plantations of the Gurué region within a relatively short distance. There are also lakes and more beaches to visit in other parts of the province, some of which offer deep sea diving and snorkelling facilities. For safari lovers, there is the Gile Hunting Reserve within a relatively short distance and further south, in Sofala Province, and the Gorongosa National Park, once ranked among the best wildlife parks in Southern Africa in Sofala Province. Both parks are currently benefiting from major rehabilitation and animal re-stocking initiatives.

Day trips can be organised by the Lodge.  You can also access useful information and travel tips from the free online Mozambique travel guide Of Road and Sea www.ofroadandsea.com/
