The Community Fund

In line with our commitment to Responsible Tourism Principles which involve sharing the benefits of tourism amongst all parties: the guests, the resort and the inhabitants of the surrounding communities, ZBLS is supporting the establishment of a Social Fund managed jointly by the community and ZBLS to support various economic and social initiatives, such as credit and savings groups, business training, provision of school materials, health facilities and other needs identified by community members. There are many unmet needs in the community. For example, there are no maternity facilities and women in labour are forced to travel by canoe to the nearest facilities, often endangering their own, as well their baby’s life. There is a shortage of clean, drinking water, which also has serious adverse health consequences for young and old in the community. There is no secondary school and the primary schools lack desks and benches and even the most basic materials, resulting in poor attendance and very low academic achievement levels.

How ZBLS is helping and how YOU can help us to help communities

5% of all accommodation revenues will be put into the Community Fund. Additional donations from guests and supporters will also be gladly received and will go directly into the fund. We are also in the process of opening up an account with a bank in the UK, which will be able to receive donations from people outside Mozambique and will be forwarded to the Community Social Fund on a regular basis. We will use our website and other means to disseminate information about the ways in which this community resource has been used.

Donations can be made by direct bank transfer to: The Supinho Fund. Account Number: 65523564. Sort code: 08 92 99 (Co-Operative Bank).

If you wish to make a donation, please contact us so we can thank you and keep you informed of our work with communities now and in the future!
